Caviar Manicure

The Caviar Manicure seems to be all the rage right now. In case you don’t know what that is, it’s a three dimensional nail design that literally looks like you have caviar on your nails. It was created by a UK based nail polish line, Ciate, and they just recently released the Caviar Manicure Kits, which are being sold in Sephora retail stores for $25 each. Although I don’t plan on trying it (don’t think it’s my cup of tea), I have to admit that the design and the concept is kind of hot. The kits come in black, multi-color, and white micro-beads:

As with most nail trends, there are gurus who find ways to get high-end looks for less…I found this Youtube video by MissJenFabulous. Apparently, you can purchase microbeads from any craft store like Michaels or Hobby Lobby for a fraction of the price, and save yourself a whole heap of change…

Check out the Youtube video here:

Will you be trying out Caviar nails?? XOXO

Baker Street – Nails Inc.

This is my second Nails Inc. nail polish purchase and I am very pleased with it. Not only is the formula incredibly easy to work with it, but the color is fully opaque with just one coat. You all may remember a few months back when Beyonce was sporting this amazing, vibrant blue mani, which I’ve pictured below…Well, I had immediately put this color on my wish list and was finally able to snag it yesterday at the Sephora in Chicago. Sidenote: There will be more on the other fabulous things I found in the Chi, but as for now, back to Baker Street:

I had seen some swatches and wasn’t sure if Baker Street was going to be bright enough for me. Well, it is! It looks just as amazing, if not better, in person. The pictures below really don’t capture the color in all its glory but these swatches will due:

What do you think about Baker Street? Will you be running to your local Sephora to pick it up?? Enjoy! XOXO

Fuchsia Lips…

I am totally on the fuchsia lips kick right now! Check out the swatches below:

  1. Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Fuchsia Fever (lined with Mac’s lip liner in Currant) – This is a pale pink that I could wear with or without a lip liner. Its soooo creamy and just glides on your lips. I would definitely recommend these color sensational lipsticks if you are looking to try color but don’t want to spend too much money (about $6).
  2. Dior Addict Extreme Lipstick in Plaza – This lipstick is amazing! Because I like color but don’t always want to call too much attention to my lips, this one is perfect for those days that I want to be a little more subtle. It is pigmented, but you will have to build the color up to make it more opaque. Its very moisturizing and glides on very smoothly. It also stains your lips a bit ($30).
  3. Cover Girl Lipstick in Spellbound – This lipstick is so incredibly opaque! It’s a gorgeous fuchsia, very similar to Mac’s Girl About Town but is much more moisturzing (about $6).
  4. Mac Lipstick in Pink Nouveau (lined with Mac’s lip liner in Vino) – This a VERY pale pink and I always have to tone it down with a lip liner or I will look like I have pink paste on my lips! It requires some work and is a little drying (about $15).

Out of all of these colors, I always reach for the Maybelline and the Dior lipsticks. If I had recommend one, I would def recommend the Maybelline Colorsensational lipsticks for their variety of color and the price. You would def get more bang for your buck!

I hope you all enjoy this post and I will talk to you all soon! Muah! XOXO…

Gratitude: The Magic

Yesterday I started reading The Magic by Rhonda Byrne , and it is so amazing that I could not put it down. Basically, she discusses how being grateful for the things you have presently allows you to open yourself up to receive more. She says, “To receive you have to give…Gratitude is giving thanks, and without it, you cut yourself off from the magic and from receiving everything you want in life…”

For the next 27 days (its 28 days in all but I began yesterday) I will begin my day with writing down ten things I am grateful for and why I am grateful for them. She also asks that you read over the things you have written down and say “Thank You” three times to yourself, and through this practice of showing gratitude for what you already have then you will in turn bring more positive things into your life. And when I did this for the first time yesterday, I actually did feel the magnitude of gratefulness. I know it may sound kind of corny, but you will be surprised at how many pleasures you enjoy in life, but fail to acknowledge.

Today I thought that I would post the 10 things I am grateful for here on my blog to perhaps inspire you to do the same. I know I talk a lot about material things, as this blog’s focus is accessories, and I obviously love to shop, but I also try to keep myself grounded. Afterall, you can’t take that Gucci bag or those Christian Louboutins with you when God calls you home, nor will you care anything about them at that point…

Here is my gratitude list for today:

  1. I am grateful for the opportunity to go to Georgetown University and complete my graduate school education because it has broadened my horizons and will offer me more opportunities for improvement in my professional career.
  2. I am grateful for my friends because they are great listeners and wonderful therapists! We do not judge one another and are always there when one of us is in need.
  3. I am grateful for my sisters because not only are they my family, they are my friends, and so many people wish they could have the bond that we have been blessed with…
  4. I am grateful for my parents because they have shown me unconditional love and have taught me to be the woman I am today.
  5. I am grateful for my co-workers because they not only make the day go by quickly, but they also look out for my best interest. As I spend the majority of my day with them, they are like family to me.
  6. I am grateful for my blog and the people who take the time out to read it because it inspires me to keep doing what I am doing. It also is encouraging to know that anyone even cares about little ole me…Lol…
  7. I am grateful for my books, as they teach me how to be a better writer, how to feel and how to look beyond myself. Books take me to whole other worlds…
  8. I am grateful for God’s grace and mercy because without it, I would be lost.
  9. I am grateful for my family in general because they inspire me to be a better person, to help others and to love unconditionally.
  10. I am grateful for my experiences, no matter how challenging they may be, because without a story, without a past, I would never know my own strength.

I know this isn’t a traditional post, but I hope that anyone who comes across it, will get something out of it.

Byrne also wrote The Secret and The Power, neither of which I have read so I cannot give an opinion on those, but I definitely would recommend that you at least look into this book to see if you are interested…Anywho, I hope everyone has a wonderful day! Muah! XOXO…

Julep Spring Mystery Box

I was on Facebook last week and Julep had asked if anyone wanted them to do a Spring Mystery Box, and of course, hundreds (if not thousands) of people said yes. I had never ordered one before, but I have heard people mention how amazing their Mystery Boxes have been in the past. They claimed that for a one time payment of $19.99 (this price is for Julep Mavens only) you would receive $60 to $200 worth of products. So I thought, what the hay!? I might as well try my hand…and here is what I received:

I obviously didn’t win the $200 prize box! Lol…However, I thought this was a really cute and afforable idea. Here’s what was included in the box:

  • Julep Nail Polishes: Brooke, Marisa and Melissa
  • Julep Essential Cuticle Oil
  • Julep Nail File
  • Julep Base Coat
  • Spring/Easter Inspired Chocolate

I wanted to try Brooke and Melissa anyway, and if I had just purchased the two of them from the website using my discount I would have paid about $23. So I think this was a pretty good deal for $20…

Brooke is a shimmery purple that I will probably use as a top coat. Marisa is a gorgeous dark blue, which I already own but I certainly don’t mind having a back-up (see my post on Marisa here). Finally, Melissa is an sheer opalescent color that I will probably use as a top coat as well.

Out of the four months that I have been a member of Julep, I’ve skipped two, but I am thinking that being a Maven is beneficial even if I don’t order a box every month…Sidenote: The last time I was in Sephora, I saw that they have a nail polish bar now (which I think is amazing in and of itself!), and I noticed that Julep nail polishes were available for purchase there for $14. However, I’m not sure if they are in all Sephora retail stores so check your with your local store to be certain…

Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this post…Be sure to let me know what you think about Julep…What has your experience been with them?? Also, if you want to see swatches, feel free to let me know! Muah! XOXO

Today’s Mani: Zoya and Revlon

As I’ve stated already, I really love Zoya’s nail polishes and Erika is a really amazing color. As you all know, I love my bright colors, but sometimes I do get the urge to tone it down and wear a color thats more subtle and muted, but still pretty. Today’s mani is Zoya’s Erika and Revlon’s Starry Pink on the accent nail. I love Starry Pink as well, but any nail polish with glitters in it are soooo difficult to remove, which is why I only put it on my ring fingers. Check out the pictures below and let me know what you think:

I used Nailtek’s Foundation II as my base coat, Seche Vite Fast Drying Top Coat, and Nicole by OPI’s Drying Drops. Clearly, I like for my mani to dry ridiculously fast! Lol…Hope you all enjoyed this post! Talk you soon! XOXO…

I’m back from my mini hiatus. I feel like I haven’t done a post in forever! I apologize for my absence, but my thesis writing has been taking up a considerable amount of my time. I’ve completed my first chapter and have begun writing my second. There will be three chapters in all in addition to an introduction and conclusion. Anywhoo…I wanted to show you guys what I have been up to…

First, I was feeling like I was in a bit of a rut and I needed a change. So I decided to get some highlights in my hair. These highlights really gave me life…Funny how something so small can make such a significant difference in how you feel about yourself…But let me quit talking and show you the pics!

My hair dresser used something called “Uncolor” to lighten my hair, which is healthier than bleach. I usually dye my hair black, but I was getting tired of that look. You have to switch it up every now and then, ladies! I really wanted to cut it, but my hair dresser refuses to let me cut my hair…Lol.

Anywhoo…I hope you enjoyed this post…I’ll be posting tomorrow about the lipstick that I have on in these pictures as well as a few other lipsticks I’ve picked up recently. I am loving lipsticks right now (both high and low end)!

Smooches! XOXO
