Rouge Pop Art

_7031134

I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and stumbled upon this baby on a beauty blogger’s feed. Now I know that the mere thought of YSL nail polish makes people cringe because of the pricey-ness associated with the brand, but let me tell you that this nail polish is well worth the money they are charging for it.

YSL’s Rouge Pop Art (RPA) is a super vibrant red, and is probably the most gorgeous red I’ve seen in a long time. Not just because the formula is smooth and easy to work with, but the brush alone makes this nail polish a gem. The brush is flat and fans out a little at the tip. When I used RPA to paint the swatches below, my nail was completely covered in two strokes. And if you are into nail polish you know that rarely ever happens. There are only a handful of brands with brushes like that. The shape of the brush also helps to avoid getting nail polish all over your cuticles.

YSL Rouge

I purchased this beauty from http://www.sephora.com during their VIB sale so I actually didn’t pay full price for this. It retails for $25 and is available here and here. There is another one (which I posted here) that I want to try, but I think I’ll wait for my Nordstrom Notes to come in the mail before doing so. Lol…

What do you guys think about high end nail polish? Would you splurge on it?? And what about red nails? Are you rocking them this season? Red nails are just so classic, aren’t they?!

Inspire Yourself

IMG_4157

My inspiration board, which sits on my desk, is one of my many muses! Since it is related to fashion/accessories I figured that I would discuss it here on the blog today. An inspiration board is simply a collage of images, quotations, objects, etc. that are somehow related to a central topic or theme. The purpose of an inspiration board is to focus, encourage and motivate you to achieve your end goal (whatever it may be). There are no limits or rules. Therefore, your board can be whatever you want it to be.

Here are a few steps I used when creating my boards:

First, you need to figure out why you want to create an inspiration board. Inspiration boards can be used for a multitude of reasons such as personal style development, business plans, redecoration/remodeling projects, event planning, etc. The board I’ve posted above is a personal style board where I have made a collage of looks/accessories/colors that I would like to try and/or incorporate into my personal style. Second, you need to figure out what types of things inspire you visually.  The things that you find most interesting and intriguing should go on your board. Depending on what type of board you are seeking to create, your images should reflect your thought process regarding the subject or theme. Third, make it interesting. Add some funky background paper to spice your board up a bit. Check out places like Hobby Lobby and Michaels. The chevron print paper that you see in the background here is from Hobby Lobby. I used three sheets, which were about $0.75 each. I also purchased some special scissors, which I used to cut some of the pictures, which adds a little fringe and flare to the board as well.

Inspiration Board

My Pinterest Boards…

Fourth, place the board in a location where you can see it on a daily basis so that it is a constant reminder of the goals you have in mind. With a board figuratively jumping out at you, it will be hard for you to slack off too much in regards to your goals. Lastly, if you find that your board isn’t as inspiring as you would like it to be, change it! That’s one of the advantages of creating a board like this, you can change it anytime you feel like it and it won’t cost you anything. Boards are meant to be fun and productive projects so don’t take it too seriously. Well, do take it seriously, but remember that it is not meant to be a burden on you. Its meant to be an easy tool. Also remember that your board may constantly change. I am actually not finished with mine, but I don’t expect to ever be finished because I am constantly adding, removing, and altering the images on it. I expect this one to change a little with every season.

Most of the photographs on my board are from my Pinterest account online.  The rest of the photos are from various magazines as well as some of my favorite bloggers’ websites. The board itself is from Ikea and retails for about $20. I have another board I bought from Target (for my personal goals) and that one was only about $10 so be sure to look around and see what kinds of boards are available in your price range. If you are the not arts and crafts type then create an account with Pinterest like the one pictured above and establish an inspiration board electronically.

What kinds of things inspire you? Do you have an inspiration board or some other method you use to motivate yourself? Are you on Pinterest? If so, do tell so that I can follow you.

Hanging In The Balance+18k Top Coat

After being in a nail polish rut all week, it was nice to pick up a handful of colors from China Glaze’s Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away 3D Collection. I obviously didn’t purchase the entire collection because I don’t have a need for all of them. Amongst the four I picked up (Hanging in the Balance, Escaping Reality, Igniting Love, and Whirled Away) I have to admit that I am totally in love with Hanging in the Balance (HITB). It is a gorgeous blue, and you all know how I love my blues!

HITB is a dark, cream turquoise blue and the brightness of the color changes depending on the lighting. The application was amazing! This formula is opaque in one coat, but in the picture below I used two.  Check out the swatches below:

CG and Zoya 18k4

I am also wearing Zoya’s 18k gold flake topcoat on my ring finger as an accent. Can I say that this topcoat is AMAZEBALLS! The application is super easy and adds a little something special to the manicure. I love that the flakes can easily be spread out on the nail as opposed to depositing a bunch of flakes in one spot, which is a problem I sometimes have with glitter nail polishes. If you are interested in purchasing it, you can order it here. You get more bang for your buck if you order the set, which is $10 more than the topcoat alone, but includes two nail polishes (Raven and Purity) in addition to the topcoat.

Anywho, you can check out the entire Cirque du Soleil collection on head2toebeauty.com or sallybeauty.com. If you are interested in seeing the swatches of the rest of the colors I purchased from the collection, let me know! Talk to you soon! xx

Style Icon: Teyana Taylor

I have not done this series in a while, but it is a series I have always enjoyed doing, and must bring back to the blog! I have a number of style muses and today I’ll be discussing the infamous Teyana Taylor. Let’s discuss this chick’s fashion game, shall we?!

TT 4

Teyana has really come a long way from her debut on MTV’s Sweet 16 show a few years ago. She is clearly a grown woman now and dresses accordingly. Her style is one that I like to incorporate into my own repertoire occasionally, stealing a look here and an accessory there from time to time. From the snapbacks to the motorcycle jackets and graphic tees, this chick is definitely not afraid to be herself…Her Harlem upbringing is busting out of the seams of her clothes.

TT 2

What I love about her style is that it is simultaneously laid back and girly. While she is often seen in black, she isn’t afraid of color, and is often pictured in leopard print and army fatigues (my fav!). She keeps it fun with her tomboy stance and her urban style (I would have said swag here but I hate that word…but I digress). And yet, she is such a girl with her face always beat and nails freshly painted.

TT 3

And her hair!! It’s always full and absolutely gorgeous. Her tresses are to die for. Her hair is always on point whether she is rocking the curly mane or a super straight, chic look. Her style really reminds me a lot of Aaliyah (may she rest in peace). One of the main reasons why I love her style is because she simply isn’t trying too hard.

Who else would you all like to see featured in this series? I am going to try my best to keep it going…Talk to you soon! xx
