Handbag Review: Marc by Marc Jacobs Preppy Colorblock Satchel

DSCN0067

Can you imagine how excited I was when I received this colorblocked satchel as a gift from my boyfriend?! When I opened it I was so surprised at the color choice. How sweet and thoughtful (Thank you, Jay…xxxx). He knows that I love satchels, but wanted to switch things up a bit by forcing me out of my black satchel comfort zone…Loves it!

I’ve had this satchel for a few months now and I like to get a good feel for a bag before I review it here on the blog. The bag is super cute and easy to carry so I defintely would recommend it to you all. Here is my breakdown of the pros and cons…

Pros:

  • The gold hardware is everything!! I love the richness of it, and it seems to be longlasting as there isn’t any sign of wear. The yellow accents also make the satchel stand out.
  • Like my DVF satchel I discussed here, I love that this satchel is already colorblocked, and can easily be rocked with a t-shirt and jeans or a sun dress.
  • The leather is very soft and forgiving so the bag opens up wide enough for you to see everything inside. For those us who like to carry big handbags, things often get lost in them, but I don’t have that problem with this one.
  • The bag is very lightweight so I can pack a million things into it and still carry it comfortably.
  • It maintains its shape, unlike my other Marc by Marc Jacobs handbag. I hate it when bags look great on display because they are stuffed with tissue, but look awful once you take the tissue out. Very faux fabulous.
  • The many straps make the bag versatile. You can carry it on your forearm, shoulder or as a cross body bag.

Cons:

  • And this con is not a big deal at all…The shoulder strap is really long. I am about 5’7 and I made the strap as short as I possibly could and its still a little longer than I like. But for those of you that are taller than me, you would definitely appreciate the long strap.

Side and Inside Details

Overall, I think the bag is amazing. I will continue to wear it into the Spring and Summer months. I love how casual it is. I can conveniently use it when I am shopping or running errands and want to carry something that isn’t fussy. I also love that it exapnds so I can toss my journals and ipad in it without any trouble. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available at Nordstrom where he found it, but you can find this satchel at Neiman Marcus or Saks Fifth Avenue. Hope you all enjoyed this post…xx

Black + White

20130322-150130.jpg

These Spring trends are really giving me life! Although I am sometimes obsessed with crazy accessories, I like for my clothes to look classic and sleek…And nothing is more classic than the Black & White trend. If I could wear black leather pants or black jeans with a white v-neck tee and a blazer (in black, cobalt blue, leopard or a floral print) on a daily basis I certainly would.

I love that this trend can stand alone, but isn’t limited to one look. One could add various colors and patterns to it to add a bit of sass to it. Surprisingly, it can also be mixed and matched with the other two Spring 2013 trends I’ve already mentioned (i.e. mint green and transparent accessories).

Check out some of these looks that are killing the trend below:

I pulled these looks from my board on Pinterest (Clothez and Clutchez). The rest of these lovely pieces are from Zara, Urban Outfitters and Jeffrey Campbell. I actually bought the Femme Fatale tee from Urban Outfitters not too long ago and I am in love with it. I think I am going to really enjoy playing around with this trend because I already have several pieces in my closet that will work. I hope you all enjoyed this post! xx

The Little Things

IMG_4990

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been trying my best to stay out of the mall. I’ve also given up carbs…So you can imagine what I am going through…No shopping and no carbs, are you serious?! Lol…But I have several goals in mind and I won’t stop until I achieve them. My only saving grace in addition to my friends and family, is the fact that there are little things that satisfy my craving to shop for things I really don’t need.

Here are a few things that are getting me through:

Justin Timberlake’s album, which I am listening to as we speak (or as I write)…My favorite songs so far are Pusher Love Girl, Don’t Hold The Wall,  Tunnel Vision, Spaceship Coupe, and Mirrors. Don’t Hold The Wall is on repeat at the moment. Can’t believe the album was only $9.99 in Target, and it also has two additional songs on it. Don’t mind if I do!

I have practically filled up my journal so I picked up this Hello Kitty one from Target so that I can continue my writing. Only 3 months into the year and I have filled my journal up already. Yikes! But journals are much cheaper than a therapist so I’ll take that. Lol

As for the Essence Magazine, who could resist a cover/feature with beautiful and positive black women on it? I’ve been a fan of Tia and Tamera Mowry since I was young. They represent black women so well. Love them. Not only that, but this April issue is also discussing how to achieve success in your career, which I definitely need to read about. I’ve been feeling a certian type of way about my current job and whether or not it is aligned with my passions/talents. So I am looking forward to reading the articles on this topic.

Lastly, I picked up this China Glaze nail polish in Keep Calm, Paint On. What can I say, I love my mint green nail polishes, and this one is actually kind of special because it isn’t an ordinary mint green. It has a tinge of shimmer in it that separates it from all the other mint green polishes I have in my collection. Can’t wait to swatch it for you guys.

Okay, I think I am done rambling…But just remember to appreciate the little things even if things aren’t going your way, and even if you aren’t getting everything you want in life…There is light at the end of the tunnel. Here is something I read today: “You may feel that you are nothing more than a useless lump of rock. But when God looks at you, He sees a valuable son or daughter whom He created in His own imagine. He’s chipping away, knocking off the rough, unsightly edges, molding you, shaping you, until He gets the angel out of the rock.” – Joel Osteen, “Your Best Life Begins Each Morning.” Plus, its Friday! Yay for the weekend!

Sally Hansen – Coral Reef

sally hansen - coral reef

Since Spring insists on being fashionably late, I thought I would break out some Spring nail polishes to help me cope with that fact that its almost April and we are still dealing with 35 degree weather here in DC/Maryland. Whatevs…Anywhoo, I wanted to share this gorgeous Sally Hansen Extreme Wear nail polish with you guys.

The first thing I love about this color is the fact that it is super affordable and retails for $2-$3 per bottle. The second thing I love about the color is that it is rich in consistency and has amazing color payoff. In the images above I used two coats but could have easily used just one to achieve this look. This bright coral pink will def grab folks’ attention this Spring.

As a bonus I thought I would add an accent to my ring and pinky fingers. I used American Apparel’s Meteor Shower, which is actually a really cool top coat. The gold flakes look like sharred confetti. Don’t sleep on American Apparel folks! It’s another affordable nail polish brand that goes for about $6 per bottle ($5 if you buy 3).

I hope you all enjoyed this post…Talk to you all soon!

Spring Trend: Clear Accessories

Back when I was in middle school I had this clear plastic purse that was soooo pressed for. And if I remember correctly, I bought it from Claire’s. I wore that bag until the strap broke! It was one of my staple pieces in 8th grade, although I didn’t realize it at the time.  And somehow, several years later, that trend seems to have creeped back into the fashion world.

Runways were crawling with transparent accessories for Spring 2013 so I thought I would share some of the cute options I’ve seen:

Clear Accessories 2

And if you need a little more color, these may be to your liking as well:

Clear Accessories 3

Although I don’t plan on investing too much money into this trend, I really am loving it! I may have to snag a clutch or necklace! Those oxfords are calling my name as well. What do you all think of the trend? I knew fashion was cyclical but geez. I am going to start keeping things I don’t wear just in case they come back in style! Lol…

Hope you all enjoyed this post…xxxx

Bubble Gum Mani

I was in Ulta last week (the new one out in Gambrills, Maryland…better known as Crofton, MD) and I stumbled upon this Revlon color. Not only is it an adorable pink, but it smells like raspberries. I don’t know where I have been, but I didn’t even realize that Revlon had a line of scented nail polishes. How adorable?!

Check out the swatches of this creamy fuchsia pink polish below:

Revlon - Bubble Gum

Since I am a sucker for pink nail polish, I thought I would give Bubble Gum a go. The formula was great…Not too thick and not too thin. In the pictures above I used two coats and topped it off with Orly’s Second Dry top coat…Speaking of top coats, I am considering going back to Seche Vite’s Fast Drying Top Coat. Although I get annoyed with it because it gets really thick once you reach the bottom of the bottle, I find that it really makes your nails shine bright like a diamond (I know that was corny but whatevs). My nails look shiny in these pictures but looked a little dull in natural lighting…But I digress….

Back to Revlon’s Bubble Gum…You can find this puppy in any local drugstore that sells Revlon products for anywhere between $4-$6.

Are you guys a sucker for pink nails too? I was just telling one of my friends last night that I have a wide range of blues, pinks and greens, from the lightest to the darkest, in my nail polish collection. Lol…

BTW I picked up a few colors from China Glaze’s Avant Garden collection…Would you guys like me to swatch them all at the same time or in separate posts? Let me know! xx

Go Mint

I don’t know what it is about mint green that gets me all excited, but I have fallen in love with a number of mint green accessories this season. The mint green trend has returned once again and is a very popular look for Spring and Summer 2013. So I decided to come up with some fun accessories that I thought you all may love:

image

As you can see, mint green accessories can be mixed and matched with various metals as well as a number of prints (tribal, leopard, etc.). In the outfit on the left, I love how the model mixes her mint green jeans with a dark sweater/blazer. This look demonstrates that you can easily spice things up a bit by incorporating color into an already chic but conservative look. And the leopard clutch is a great contrast between the light/dark hues.

But if you are one that stays away from bright clothing, consider investing in a mint handbag. Coach and Rebecca Minkoff have designed some great options (pictured above the right). A fun necklace or shoe can also do the trick. And of course, I had to mention at least one nail polish that fits the mint trend (Ciate’s Pepperminty).

So…What Spring trends are you guys excited about? I’ve already purchased some mint green jeans, but I may need to cop one of these cute crossbody bags too!

I hope everyone is having a great week! xx
