Ulta Made Me Do It…

Every time I turn around Ulta is having a sale of some sort. 20% off, buy one/get one half off, $5.00 off your purchase, etc. Not to mention the fact that you can gain so many points and get money off your purchases as well.  Needless to say that I used this opportunity to pick up a few Sally Hansen nail polishes that were on my wish list:

Blue My Mind (Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure)

Blue My Mind is absolutely gorgeous!!! It reminds me of China Glaze’s Frostbite, which is probably why it caught my eye. I am a sucker for blue nail polishes and this is no exception. The formula is amazing and the color payoff is wonderful. But that price! It retails for about $8, which is kind of expensive for a drugstore nail polish, but I think its well worth it.

Dive In (Sally Hansen Triple Shine)

Dive In is much more subtle than I was expecting, but its a beautiful color nonetheless. The first coat was a bit thin and streaky, but I only needed two coats to achieve the look in the photo above. Sally Hansen has a lot of vibrant colors in this particular line so if you are in need of a super pigmented color, check it out!

Are you a fan of Sally Hansen nail polishes? Is there any particular line that you like? I looking forward to trying more colors!! I hope you all are enjoying your week!! xx

Here’s just a quick recap of my favorite nail polishes/nail posts of 2013:

Sugar Fix: The Texturized Manicure

DSCN0418

Everyone seems to be going crazy over these texturized manicures so I thought I would see what all the hype was about. I purchased Sally Hansen’s Sugar Coat in Sugar Fix (white) and tried my hand at this manicure. I think the look is cute if you want to try something different. I would probably wear these if I was going to a fun fashionable event or if I just felt like switching my nail polish game up a bit, but I doubt that I would wear something like this on a daily basis. I also should have chosen a different color (blue, green, coral, something…) as opposed to white. Sometimes white nail polish can look very harsh on darker complexions:

DSCN0419

DSCN0421

In these swatches I only used one coat and the nail polish dried pretty quickly. You do not need a top coat (obviously), and the color comes off very easily with regular nail polish remover. No excessive scrubbing needed! Be sure to only apply one coat for this look. Even though the instructions state that you should apply two thin coats, if you apply two, the nail polish will not dry to look like these swatches, it will look clumpy…at least, that was my experience.

Overall, I think the texturized look is a cool concept, but  I don’t think this look is something I would wear often. First, I don’t really care for matte nails. I’m old school, I like my nails to shine bright! Because of the fact that this particular nail polish is textured, white and matte, it makes your hands look a bit dry even if they aren’t, which is a major problem for me!

Be sure to check out other texture mani option from brands such as OPI (Liquid Sand), Zoya (Pixie Dust), China Glaze (Texture), Milani (Texture), etc. Although I don’t LOVE this mani I do like it. I also want to try to Zoya Pixie Dust because those are infused with a bit of glitter, which may add some pizazz.

Have any of you tried any of the texturized manicures? If so, let me know your thoughts…

I hope you all enjoyed this post and are having a great week…BTW: 3 more days until the weekend! WhooHoo! xx

Sally Hansen – Coral Reef

sally hansen - coral reef

Since Spring insists on being fashionably late, I thought I would break out some Spring nail polishes to help me cope with that fact that its almost April and we are still dealing with 35 degree weather here in DC/Maryland. Whatevs…Anywhoo, I wanted to share this gorgeous Sally Hansen Extreme Wear nail polish with you guys.

The first thing I love about this color is the fact that it is super affordable and retails for $2-$3 per bottle. The second thing I love about the color is that it is rich in consistency and has amazing color payoff. In the images above I used two coats but could have easily used just one to achieve this look. This bright coral pink will def grab folks’ attention this Spring.

As a bonus I thought I would add an accent to my ring and pinky fingers. I used American Apparel’s Meteor Shower, which is actually a really cool top coat. The gold flakes look like sharred confetti. Don’t sleep on American Apparel folks! It’s another affordable nail polish brand that goes for about $6 per bottle ($5 if you buy 3).

I hope you all enjoyed this post…Talk to you all soon!

I Got The Blues

So I was in Ulta the other day, and I stumbled upon this Sally Hansen nail polish that I have been searching for forever! Now you all know I love my blue nail polish, and this one…well, it’s just no different. And for $2.59 I went ahead and bought two of them thank you very much!

Pacific Blue initially reminded me of Baker Street (see post here) from Nails Inc. Though it isn’t as bright, it is just as creamy and looks great on! The formula was very smooth and easy to apply. It is opaque in one coat, but for the sake of long lasting wear I would suggest applying two coats.

As for the color on my ring finger, that baby is Revlon’s Coastal Surf. While is was $7.99 in Ulta, I grabbed it out of Walmart for a whopping $4.97. Don’t mind if I do! This one is also an easy to apply cream color. I was so excited about these colors I had to try them on together somehow. Check out the swatches below:

How gorge are these blues?! I do apologize for the short nail on my index finger…of course it broke the other day. I hate it when my nails break on my left hand, the hand I use for all my swatches! Lol…Anyway, I hope you all enjoy these blues. I will talk to you all soon. Smooches! XOXO

Mani Essentials: Nails 101

Nothing compliments a great outfit better than an amazing manicure. Ladies, we have to make sure that we take care of our nails! I am often asked what I use to care for my nails, so I thought I would give you all some tips and tricks that have been useful to me.

Here are what I deem to be Mani Essentials:

Mani Essentials…

10 Step at Home Manicure:

  1. Soak your hands in soapy water for five minutes or apply a cuticle remover to soften your cuticles. I would suggest Sally Hansen’s Instant Cuticle Remover Gel because it is quick, and easy to use. I use it about once a week.
  2. Push your cuticles back. I normally use a metal tool to do this, but you can use your fingernails instead if you don’t have one.
  3. Exfoliate your hands with a scrub. I would recommend the One Minute Manicure in Classic Mint or any other exfoliant that is specifically for the hands and feet. Massage the exfoliant into your hands, and be sure to include your cuticles. You want to remove as much dead skin as possible. I do not recommend that you cut your cuticles, as their purpose is to protect you from infection.
  4. Moisturize your hands with a cream or cuticle butter. I use Burt’s Bees Lemon Cuticle Butter (pictured above) every day, several times a day. Moisturized cuticles will make your manicure look more polished.
  5. Shape your nails. I use either a crystal or regular nail file when shaping my nails. When filing your nails, remember to file in one direction. Do not file back and forth, which can cause peeling.
  6. Apply a base coat to the nail. Base coats protect your nails from staining and also help your nail color to last longer. I would recommend Orly’s Bonder or CND’s Sticky Base Coat. If you need a nail strengthener, try OPI’s Nail Envy (which I am using at the moment) or Nailtek’s Foundation II.
  7. Apply your nail color. You should apply at least two coats of nail polish. Be sure that you paint the edges of your nails to avoid premature chipping.
  8. Apply a top coat. I recommend Seche Vite’s Fast Drying Top Coat (pictured above), Sally Hansen’s InstaDry, or INM’s Out the Door Fast Drying Top Coat. In addition, OPI, and many other brands, have drying drops that can speed up the drying process.
  9. Clean up your cuticles. Be sure to clean any access nail polish that may have gotten on your cuticles with a corrector pen (pictured above) or precision Q-tips with nail polish remover on them.
  10. Finally, when removing your nail polish, be sure to use a nail polish remover that has some type of moisturizer in it so that you don’t dry out your cuticles. Do not use pure acetone! If you are going to use acetone, at least use the one that has wheat protein and/or vitamin E in it. I use the Beauty Secrets Acetone from Sally’s Beauty Supply (pictured above). I’ve also heard good things about Zoya’s Remove +.

I hope these tips help you to care for your nails at home! If you should have any questions about any of these tips, feel free to post them below. XX

Fall Nails

I combed through my nail polish collection to see if I had the essential colors for Fall, and I do! Rusts/coppers, nudes, blues, greens, reds/corals and gunmetals are all in this fall. I’ve swatched all of the colors you will need, and even added some colors to keep things interesting. Personally, I can’t walk around with dark colors on my hands for several months (so depressing!) so I had to throw some wildcards into the mix.

Starting at the top with the black, I will list the colors and brands clockwise:

  1. Liquid Leather – China Glaze
  2. Revvvolution – Color Club
  3. Gunmetal – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  4. Pink (It’s actually a peach color)- Love and Beauty
  5. Hi Def – Sephora
  6. Monsooner or Later – OPI
  7. Hot Magenta – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  8. Purple Panic – China Glaze
  9. Let’s Talk – Sinful Colors
  10. Yoga-Ta Get This Blue – OPI
  11. Frostbite – China Glaze
  12. Blue It – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  13. Ocean View – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  14. Read My Palm – Sephora
  15. The Real Teal – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  16. Dance Teal Dawn – Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear
  17. Emerald City – Revlon
  18. Teal We Meet Again – Sephora

Something Sweet

Whenever I feel like I need a break from color or when I need a manicure and don’t want it to be noticeable that I haven’t had one, I turn to a nude color. Beige nudes don’t really work for my skin tone so I normally go for a pinky-nude. I’m sure that’s not a word, but whatevs! Check out this China Glaze polish in Something Sweet:

Other pink-nudes that I like are Sheer Strawberry from Sally Hansen, Empowerment from China Glaze and Pink Chiffon from Revlon…Enjoy! XOXO

Quick Post: My B-Day Nails

I was feeling really fiesty (in a good way) on my birthday (August 5th) so I decided to do a bright red color with some leopard print accented nails…Check it out below:

I used Sally Hansen’s Salon Effects in Kitty, Kitty and Color Club’s Jackie Oh!

Talk to you all soon…Gotta hurry and get to my movie…going to see The Help tonight! Wish me luck on getting a ticket and a good seat! Lol…XOXO

Massive Nail Polish Haul

Okay, I know, I know, this is a lot of nail polish to collect in a month and a half, but I couldn’t resist!! Between Ulta, http://www.head2toebeauty.com, Target, Walmart and Sally’s Beauty Supply I have collected WAY TOO MUCH POLISH, but I am loving and wearing them all!!

I have some swatches below that I know a lot of you guys (gals!) would be interested in so let’s get right into it. Click on the pictures to enlarge them so that you can see the colors up close:

Outside

Natural Light

I’ve taken pictures of these swatches in various lighting because, believe it or not, your polish looks different depending on the lighting. Here are the names and brands of each from left to right:

  1. Milani: Totally 80’s (Target)
  2. Wet’N’Wild: The Wonder Yellows (Walmart)
  3. Revlon: Minted (Target)
  4. Essie: Turquoise and Caicos (Ulta)
  5. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear: The Real Teal (Ulta)
  6. Sally Hansen HD: Blu (Target)
  7. Sinful Colors: Let’s Talk (Target)
  8. Color Club: Pure Energy (Head2toe)
  9. Color Club: Poptastic (Head2toe)
  10. Color Club: Revvvolution (holographic) (Head2toe)
  11. China Glaze Crackle Metal: Oxidized Aqua (The polish underneath is Frostbite by China Glaze) (Sally’s Beauty Supply)
  12. China Glaze Crackle Metal: Platinum Pieces (The polish underneath is Frostbite by China Glaze) (Sally’s Beauty Supply)

There are a few other China Glaze Crackle Metals that I want but Sally’s only had the two I mentioned above and Broken Medallion (which I didn’t want). I need Tarnished Gold, and Haute Metal (and maybe Latticed Lilac)…We shall see if I can get my hands on them! Here’s a link to the video demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diYAChyhqBg&feature=player_embedded

BONUS: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

I’ve seen advertisements for these in several magazines and I’ve been wanting to try them for a long time. I was debating because $8-$9 is a lot to spend on nail strips for one-time only use. I am excited to report that I am very pleased with them. Kitty, Kitty is definitely my favorite out of all of the designs. I tried Frock Star, but I couldn’t get with all that glitter! Here is the swatch for Kitty, Kitty:

Sally Hansen Salon Effects: Kitty, Kitty

Stayed tuned for more tips and recommendations on nail polish and nail care…Smooches!! XOXO
