Where Have You Been Kelz?

Blog Pic Kelz

Hey guys! I know I have been MIA for the past couple of months, but you know how life is…The purpose of this post is for me to share a few things with you all and hopefully gain some insight from you as well…

First, I am in the process of looking for a new job, which is a job in and of itself. I have been at my job for 9 years, which is a long time to just pick up and leave. But at the same time, I am all about progression and growth so I can’t just keep sitting here waiting for things to change. I have to move it along. As a side hustle, I have been considering going to school so that I can get my nail technician license. You all know how much I love nails! So I am looking into that at the moment as well.

Second, I have been thinking a lot about doing a lifestyle blog similar to this one, but I would discuss books, fashion, relationships, fitness, home décor, etc. Basically, things that I am interested in. Each subject having its own section. Sometimes I just feel like I am so restricted as to what I can talk about here. If I can figure out how to leave this blog in tact and add various categories then I may do that as opposed to completely changing my domain. My problem is that I have so many ideas, they sometimes get jumbled together and I have a hard time just making a decision.

Third, I have been reading like nobody’s business. Lol…Young Adult, New Adult, Adult Contemporary, etc. And I am officially addicted to Booktube (Youtube videos that are all about books!).  I have come across a lot of literature I wouldn’t have known about otherwise. It’s crazy! You guys can follow me on Goodreads if you’re interested in what I am reading.

Lastly, I am hoping that you all could tell me what you would like to see here on the blog…My nail posts are usually pretty popular so I will continue to do those. I’d also like to continue to do my Fashionable Reads series. What else do you all want to see? I received a request to discuss my hair routine so I plan to do a post on that as well. But I need some help here…Please give me some feedback on what you all would like to see on the blog so that I can add it to my plans. It’s been almost 5 months and I miss blogging…I miss interacting with you guys!

Anyway, I hope all is well with everyone and I’ll be seeing you in my next post! xx

Winter Survival Kit

Winter Survival Kit
It has been ridiculously cold in Maryland this winter so I have been taking refuge at home, and everyone knows I enjoy being on my couch. However, the items above are just a few things I need in order to stay busy while on the couch. I swear that I spend way too much time online but I just can’t help it. The internet is the way of the world now, and it connects and exposes you to so many things that you wouldn’t ordinarily have access to. Sometimes I don’t even bother turning my television on…I sit back and listen to music either while I am writing in my journal, painting my nails, or surfing the net.
When the music is off, Netflix is definitely on. I LOVE NETFLIX, like seriously. I’ve watched countless televisions shows, documentaries, and movies on there. The Lord designed it just for me! Lol…If you aren’t in the know, I feel bad for you son.
So on your next snow day (I’ve enjoyed at least 3 snow days this month) snuggle up with your favorite cup of tea (coffee/hot chocolate) in your Minnie Mouse onesie and RELAX. Write, read, lounge…do whatever you like to do but make sure you enjoy your down time.

Mean Girls…

I have been blogging for almost 3 years now, and one thing that I have noticed about the internet world is that so many women get off on tearing other women down online. Why? Nothing exhibits this more than Youtube and fashion blog commentary. Women are constantly berating other women. For instance, I sometimes look at the Fashion Bombshell of the Day posts on Fashion Bomb Daily, and the comments are always dripping with mean-spirited criticisms instead of constructive ones. A difference of opinion is perfectly normal and constructive criticism is often needed, but if your intentions are to get a laugh or to hurt someone’s feelings, I’m not down for that. And it happens all the time…

The internet seems to give people super powers. The things they wouldn’t dare say to someone’s face are so freely expressed online. It must be nice to be able to sit back and criticize the people who have the confidence to put it all out there for everyone to see. Many of these comments, of course, are submitted anonymously and are most likely from broads who are unhappy with themselves. Stop pointing out someone else’s insecurities in order to mask your own. Quite frankly, it’s desperate, unladylike and tacky.

But you’d rather be an internet gangsta, right? You are running around telling all the ‘fashionistas’ online exactly what is wrong with their looks, style, teeth, hair and priorities. You are “keeping it real.” But guess what ladies, if you do not like what you see you can easily close the window…Click the red X on your internet browser and rid yourself of all the unfashionable nonsense you despise. If someone’s style or content isn’t your cup of tea then unsubscribe. The great thing about the internet is that you do not have to engage in things that do not interest you.

Another assumption that is often made is that people do not have lives outside of their presence on the internet. I love to look good, but trust that my life isn’t all leopard and sequins. My blog, and any other social media I am on, is a very small part of my life and I think other bloggers would agree with that sentiment. While I love fashion, I am also a lover of art, education, books, family, friends and a host of other things.

Furthermore, while you are passing judgment on the things I (or others) are wearing or discussing online, where is your outfit? Where is your content? Where is your blog, novel, or any other contribution to this culture? Unfortunately, you have none…And you don’t have any because you are too preoccupied with worrying about what someone else is doing.  Please realize that this is preventing you from contributing something meaningful. But I am not here to judge you either. If you choose not to do anything culturally or intellectually stimulating for the rest of your life, that is perfectly fine with me. However, learn to stay in your lane…Do not harass women who are comfortable in their skin and seek to share their style with the world. That does not make them superficial and it does not give you the right to brow beat them for every single thing that you do not like about their style.

So next time you decide to post a comment stating that someone’s shoes look cheap in their outfit of the day (OOTD) post or that they need to spend their money on their child instead of clothing and accessories, think of the saying that your mother should have taught you:

If you do not have anything nice to say then do not say anything at all.  xx

Oh.Em.Gee! – Julie G Nail Polishes

I have heard so much about Julie G’s nail polish on Youtube. When a few of them caught my eye in Rite Aid the other day I thought I would give them a go. I tried to pick out colors that were practically sold out (that’s usually a good indication that the polish is the goods). As you all know blues and pinks are my go-to colors so I chose one blue (Cabana Boy), one pink (Oh Em Gee!), and a wild card (Kickin’ It):

Kickin’ It (Flash)

Kickin’ It (No Flash)

Oh Em Gee! (Flash)

Oh Em Gee! (No Flash)

Cabana Boy (Flash)

Cabana Boy (No Flash)

I have to say that I am impressed. I honestly wasn’t expecting much, but I have been pleasantly surprised by each of these colors. Kickin’ It is gorge, obvi, but I needed three coats in order to get the color you all see in the photos above. Same thing happened with Oh Em Gee!, two coats just wasn’t enough. Outside of that though I have no complaints. Oh Em Gee! looks far better and brighter in person. Cabana Boy was absolute perfection. I could have gotten away with one coat, but I applied two. Also, it could definitely pass as a duplicate of Sally Hansen’s Pacific Blue, which is sometimes hard to find.

These polishes retail for $3.99 each with the exception of Oh Em Gee! which I bought on sale for $1.99. Have you guys tried Julie G polishes before? I am definitely looking forward to trying out more colors.

I hope you all have an amazing week. Smooches! xx

Half Moon

So I decided to try my hand at a half moon manicure since all the nail salons I called last week couldn’t guarantee me that they had a nail tech that could reproduce the look. In the photos below I used  Revlon’s Bubble Gum and OPI’s My Boyfriend Scales Walls. This manicure is a little more difficult than one might think. Check out the images below and let me know what you all think about my skills (or lack thereof…Lol):

Moving On…

Moving On

This is literally how my house is beginning to look. Next weekend I will be moving out of my current apartment and into a new one. The apartment I’m in now was my first place, and when I moved out back in March 2011, I really had no idea if I could take care of myself. A 28 year old shopaholic living on her own?!

But as it turns out I am actually more responsible than I give myself credit for…Lol

Although a few bad things happened, a lot of great things have happened in my life since I moved out. While I have been living here I’ve lost my grandmother, freed myself from an on-again/off-again relationship, published my thesis, graduated from Georgetown, started my blog, fallen in love with someone new, and  filled up at least 4 journals with all of my personal thoughts.

It’s crazy how you see your life going one way, and God says, “I know that’s what you think you should be doing, but let’s do this instead…” Lol…What I thought my life would look like at this stage is nothing like what I’ve experienced, but dare I say that it’s better than I could have imagined. Life isn’t perfect at all (and never will be) and yet its still incredibly beautiful.

It’s funny how packing up your life and moving some place new makes you nostalgic, but more importantly, gets you excited about what is to come. Moving on seems to be the theme of my life this year…So many new things to discover, so many things I had to let go of in order to move forward.

I am really excited about moving and I can’t wait to decorate my new place. I’ll be sure to post my décor ideas here on the blog so you guys can see the progression. I think I’ll actually put my paintings up this time around.

BTW: I don’t have any internet access at home right now so my posts will be a little sporadic until I get settled in to the new spot. I hope you all are having a wonderful week. Talk to you soon. xx

The Little Things

I don’t know about you guys, but I have been trying my best to stay out of the mall. I’ve also given up carbs…So you can imagine what I am going through…No shopping and no carbs, are you serious?! Lol…But I have several goals in mind and I won’t stop until I achieve them. My only saving grace in addition to my friends and family, is the fact that there are little things that satisfy my craving to shop for things I really don’t need.

Here are a few things that are getting me through:

Justin Timberlake’s album, which I am listening to as we speak (or as I write)…My favorite songs so far are Pusher Love Girl, Don’t Hold The Wall,  Tunnel Vision, Spaceship Coupe, and Mirrors. Don’t Hold The Wall is on repeat at the moment. Can’t believe the album was only $9.99 in Target, and it also has two additional songs on it. Don’t mind if I do!

I have practically filled up my journal so I picked up this Hello Kitty one from Target so that I can continue my writing. Only 3 months into the year and I have filled my journal up already. Yikes! But journals are much cheaper than a therapist so I’ll take that. Lol

As for the Essence Magazine, who could resist a cover/feature with beautiful and positive black women on it? I’ve been a fan of Tia and Tamera Mowry since I was young. They represent black women so well. Love them. Not only that, but this April issue is also discussing how to achieve success in your career, which I definitely need to read about. I’ve been feeling a certian type of way about my current job and whether or not it is aligned with my passions/talents. So I am looking forward to reading the articles on this topic.

Lastly, I picked up this China Glaze nail polish in Keep Calm, Paint On. What can I say, I love my mint green nail polishes, and this one is actually kind of special because it isn’t an ordinary mint green. It has a tinge of shimmer in it that separates it from all the other mint green polishes I have in my collection. Can’t wait to swatch it for you guys.

Okay, I think I am done rambling…But just remember to appreciate the little things even if things aren’t going your way, and even if you aren’t getting everything you want in life…There is light at the end of the tunnel. Here is something I read today: “You may feel that you are nothing more than a useless lump of rock. But when God looks at you, He sees a valuable son or daughter whom He created in His own imagine. He’s chipping away, knocking off the rough, unsightly edges, molding you, shaping you, until He gets the angel out of the rock.” – Joel Osteen, “Your Best Life Begins Each Morning.” Plus, its Friday! Yay for the weekend!

Beautiful People…

TGIF!!!! Even though I will be working on my thesis most of the weekend, I am so excited to be off for three days straight! Even the traffic, which has been insane all week, was lighter than usual today…

During my drive in to work today, I popped my Chris Brown CD in and was listening to my favorite song, Beautiful People…Its on my workout playlist, but I haven’t listened to it in my car for quite some time. Can I just say this song makes me feel so Goooooooooddddddd inside! Its all about living your life, doing what makes you happy, and refusing to let anyone or anything bring you down.

Check it out here:

Enjoy! Happy Friday boos!!! XOXO

Mini Moments

One thing that I have learned from Instagram is to capture mini moments throughout the day…From nail products to traffic jams, I post all sorts of photos on my Instagram account. Here are some moments I captured this week, just in case you missed them…

Rediscovered these Carrera sunnies!!

I searched high and low for Essie’s Bikini So Teeny nail polish and I found the last one hidden on a high shelf in Target (I think someone was hiding it and had planned on coming back for it)…Love this color!

A peacock journal I purchased recently from Barnes and Noble. My current journal is so raggedy (and is falling apart!)…I am trying to use up the last couple of pages so that I can start writing in this one…

I’ve been eyeing these Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bags for quite some time now. Finally scored this one on sale!! Thought I would step outside my box and purchase a color I wouldn’t normally wear…Magenta Shimmer with gold hardware.

Started reading this book the other night in Barnes and Noble…In the process of repositioning myself for great things to come…

Until the next post…XX
