Glitter Wasted: Zoya’s Dream and Mosheen

So I ordered some polishes from Zoya when they were having their awesome promotions a few weeks ago. Dream and Mosheen from their Zenith collection had been on my wish list since they first came out so I had to cop them. Dream is a gorgeous dark blue jelly polish with holographic glitter. BANGIN’…Mosheen is an ice blue glitter top coat with turquoise bar glitters. It definitely can’t be worn alone but is very pretty over Dream if you can handle that much glitter on one nail. Check out the swatches below:

Glitter nails are always on trend for the holidays so I figured that this was a good nail polish selection with New Year’s right around the corner…

Did you guys catch any of Zoya’s promotions? Do you own any of these colors? If so, how do you like them? Zoya also just came out with their Natural Collection, which you can check out here. Talk to you all soon! xx

Fall Favorites

DSCN0679

These are a few of my favorites things…

Michael Kors Selena Satchel: I bought this bag during the Bloomingdale’s family and friends discount sale, and I have been wearing it every since. I love that it is structured and can stand alone no matter how you pack your items into it. I also love the gold hardware since I have been wearing gold a lot lately.

Alice and Olivia Starbucks Mug/Lipton Green Teas: Who doesn’t want to drink their tea out of an adorable cup?! I purchased this cup at Starbucks not too long ago and I am so in love with it. I am also addicted to these Lipton green teas, which I have been drinking out of my mug. I drink green tea EVERY SINGLE DAY now! Every since I went to Teavana and tasted their amazing tea blends, I had to find something comparable. Red Goji Raspberry (Wegmans) and Purple Acai Blueberry (Wegmans/Walmart) are my favorites.

Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Body Mist: This body mist is so light and fresh. I smelled the perfume and instantly fell in love, but I didn’t want to pay $55 for it. So I bought the smaller size to see how it worked with my body chemistry. Now I carry it in my bag and spray it whenever I feel  the urge to…Go smell it when you have some free time…

Favorite Nail Polishes at the Moment: Orly’s Pretty Ugly, Zoya’s Raven, and Formula X’s Zing. The clear nail polish is my new base coat…Rejuvacote is a nail strengthener that I had heard a lot of great things about. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now and I definitely like the results. Even though my nails still have the tendency to break, its only a chip here and there. They are much stronger than they have been.

The Art of War for Writers and Bird by Bird: I’ve had these books forever, but I have recently been rereading them to get some literary inspiration. I am working on developing a book idea I have and these books are helping me quite a bit. One thing I have learned from them is that you must write every day and at the same time every day. It’s also helpful if you to pretend that there is an imaginary gun to your head so that you don’t get up before you’re supposed to (only other writers/inspiring writings will understand that). LOL…Anne Lamott talks a lot about how you must quiet all the distractions (internally and externally) so that you can get to magic…the writing! I know this all sounds crazy, but I am learning that writing has to become a habit. I’m still working on that…

What To Wear: Black & Gold

Since I knew I was going to be with my entire family on Mother’s Day, playing with my nieces and nephews, I wanted to wear something chic but comfortable so I decided on this Femme Fatale tee (which I didn’t realize said 666 until today…I promise I don’t worship the devil!) and my favorite leopard Sperrys.

When I had gone outside initially I didn’t have on a jacket because the sun was beaming, and I assumed that it was warm. Not so…The weather here in DC is super weird. It was beautifully sunny, but very windy yesterday. So I took a few pictures with and without the jacket:

{Jacket: Armani Exchange. Tee: Urban Outfitters. Jeans: Nordstrom BP. Shoes: Nordstrom Rack (Sperry’s). Belt: Michael Kors. Sunnies: Tory Burch. Purse: Rebecca Minkoff. Watch: Michael Kors. Bracelet: HRH Collection. Necklace: Asos. Nails: Ali from Zoya. Lippie: Rebel from Mac.}

Some of my favorite accessories at the moment…

And yes, I have on leopard again. Lol…I just can’t stop wearing it! I am also super obsessed with gold accessories. This bracelet from the HRH Collection is super adorable and girly. Definitely one of my favorite pieces at the moment. Not to mention this ID necklace from Asos…Loves it!

I hope you all enjoyed this post!! xx…Kel

Special thanks to Kayla for snapping these pictures for me.

Zoya Nail Polish Exchange

12515_10151548643773815_1078447674_n

These sorts of promotions are the precise reason why I love the Zoya brand! From now until April 26, 2013 you can receive 50% off of your nail polish purchases (a minimum order of 6 polishes is required) on Zoya.com. All they ask is that you send them your old nail polish bottles so that they can dispose of them properly. Therefore, if you purchase 6 new polishes from Zoya, you will need to send 6 old nail polishes for them to dispose. However, the old nail polishes you send to them must be from a different brand (any brand except for Zoya).

Since there are some Zoya polishes that I’ve been waiting to try, I’ll definitely be participating. Be sure to check out Zoya’s website for further details on the promotion here.

Talk to you all soon!! xx

DIY French Manicure

Although I love being able to paint my nails any color, sometimes I feel like I need a break.  Usually when I am not in the mood for bright nails I opt for some sort of pink nude shade . However, this time I opted for a french manicure.

First, I thought about going to the nail salon and getting it done, but you all know how I hate nail salons so I decided that I could probably do it myself. In CVS I had recently seen the Sally Hansen Salon Effect nail strips, which come in a variety of french manicure colors. But those things were like $12 or $13, and I had no idea whether or not it was going to turn out cute so back to the drawing board I went.

On one of my many midnight treks to Walmart (I am a vampire so I prefer to go to Walmart off the late night when most people are asleep) I found some french manicure guides for $1.87. I freakin’ love Walmart! So I went home and tried my hand at a DIY french manicure. Here are the results:

french mani

I think it turned out pretty good. The guides were pretty easy to use, but you have to make sure that they are aligned perfectly on the tip and pressed completely down on the nail. You also have to make sure that the nail polish is completely dry before peeling the guide off because you will have to do it completely over if the tip smears in any way. I had to do my entire right hand twice, but the second time was a charm.

Once I got the perfect french manicured tips down, I applied my Nailtek base coat. Once that was completely dry, I applied the Northern Lights top coat, which I am in love with. This top coat has tiny little sprinkles of glitter in it (look closely at the picture above) and it adds the perfect amount of shimmer to your nails without going overboard. Too bad I couldn’t capture it in the pictures. Finally, to speed up the drying process, I applied my favorite Out the Door top coat.

Products used:

  • Zoya’s Purtity
  • Nailene Perfect Tips: French Polish Guides
  • Northern Lights Top Coat
  • Nailtek Foundation II
  • Out The Door Top Coat

Have you ever done your own french manicure? If so, do you have any secret tips you’d like to share?

I hope you all enjoyed this post…Talk to you soon. xx, Kel

On Wednesdays We Wear Pink

Zoya - Ali

Zoya’s Ali

Mean Girls is still my favorite movie of all time! I’m not even sure that I haven’t named one of my posts after this mantra from the movie already, but we are just gonna go with it for now. Continuing with my red-ish nail polish obsession, today I wanted to show you guys this gorgeous pinky-red cream color from Zoya. I can’t decide whether this color belongs in the pink or red family so you can decide for yourself. All I know is that it is simply gorge…

Ali is a color that I recently rediscovered in my nail polish collection. Do you guys do that? Rediscover things that you loved once but forgot about…but then you fall in love with it again once you take the time to notice it. Okay, maybe that’s just a Leo thing…Lol

Anywhoo, this baby is opaque in one coat, but in the pictures above I used two as well as a top coat. The formula is very easy to manipulate as it is very smooth and creamy. Zoya has quickly become one of my favorite nail polish brands. Did any of you participate in their recent promotion? I decided not to because I want to try a few colors from the Spring 2013 Lovely collection (Blu, Jacqueline and Neely), which weren’t included in the promotion. Nonetheless, $10 for 3 Zoya polishes is a great deal since they are normally $8 a pop. They are always offering promotions so I’m sure I’ll catch the next one!

Hanging In The Balance+18k Top Coat

After being in a nail polish rut all week, it was nice to pick up a handful of colors from China Glaze’s Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away 3D Collection. I obviously didn’t purchase the entire collection because I don’t have a need for all of them. Amongst the four I picked up (Hanging in the Balance, Escaping Reality, Igniting Love, and Whirled Away) I have to admit that I am totally in love with Hanging in the Balance (HITB). It is a gorgeous blue, and you all know how I love my blues!

HITB is a dark, cream turquoise blue and the brightness of the color changes depending on the lighting. The application was amazing! This formula is opaque in one coat, but in the picture below I used two.  Check out the swatches below:

CG and Zoya 18k4

I am also wearing Zoya’s 18k gold flake topcoat on my ring finger as an accent. Can I say that this topcoat is AMAZEBALLS! The application is super easy and adds a little something special to the manicure. I love that the flakes can easily be spread out on the nail as opposed to depositing a bunch of flakes in one spot, which is a problem I sometimes have with glitter nail polishes. If you are interested in purchasing it, you can order it here. You get more bang for your buck if you order the set, which is $10 more than the topcoat alone, but includes two nail polishes (Raven and Purity) in addition to the topcoat.

Anywho, you can check out the entire Cirque du Soleil collection on head2toebeauty.com or sallybeauty.com. If you are interested in seeing the swatches of the rest of the colors I purchased from the collection, let me know! Talk to you soon! xx

DL’s Boom Boom Pow + Gaia

I was painting my nails last night and I wanted to go for a more neutral look since I have been wearing vibrant blues and pinks for a minute now. I decided to use Zoya’s Gaia for my mani, and I added Deborah Lippmann’s Boom Boom Pow to my accent nail.

What can I say about Gaia? First, I have to admit that the pictures do not do her justice. Gaia is a creamy white color with gorgeous flecks of gold/yellow in it. I purchased this color a few months ago during Zoya’s last buy 3, get 3 promotion and I am not at all disappointed. I bought this particular color because white nail polish can look a bit harsh on dark skin (in my opinion) and I wanted a white (or close to white) color that would look flattering on me. Although its a little streaky at first, by your third coat, you will be so mesmerized by this color, and you will forget all about the little bit of work you had to put into it. Gaia’s golden shimmer is really what makes this color special. You can purchase it on Zoya’s website here for $8.

As for Deborah Lippmann’s Boom Boom Pow, not only does it have 24K gold flakies in it, but it looks absolutely gorgeous on the nail. BBP consists of round gold glitters as well as tiny flecks of gold, which makes your nails feel blinged out without looking too over the top. You can pair is with almost any color and it will look beautiful. DL’s nail polishes usually cost a pretty penny (BBP retails for $20), but anyone who has tried her glitter polishes will admit that it is well worth it. Of all of the DL polishes I own, BBP is definitely one of my favorites. You can purchase it at Nordstrom here.

I hope you enjoyed this post…Talk to you all soon!! XOXO
