The Blues: Frostbite and Xanadu

This winter has been so hard on my nails. They are constantly breaking and feel so incredibly brittle even though I am taking vitamins daily. With that being said, because my nails are so short right now I’ve fallen back in love with China Glaze’s Frostbite. I love it because no matter how short your nails are this color will always look good. Although it is my favorite, I wanted to add a little something to it. I picked up this Deborah Lippmann polish in Xanadu a few months ago but I hadn’t used it yet. It’s a lot of glitter so I decided to use it just for an accent nail. Check out the swatches below:

Xanadu reminds me of Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream but it doesn’t have quite as much texture. I love it nonetheless, but I don’t know if I want to use it for my entire manicure. What do you guys think? What nail polishes have you all been wearing this winter? I’ve seen some pretty awesome Spring collections from China Glaze, Color Club, and Zoya so I am looking forward to wearing bright colors again! Are there any particular collections you guys would like for me to swatch? If so, just let me know!

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Talk to you soon! xx

China Glaze: City of Flourish Collection

Hola!!!!!!! Today I have four colors from China Glaze’s new City of Flourish collection. Sally’s Beauty Supply had a sale on all their China Glaze polishes, buy one get one free, and you know I hopped all over that. I purchased four of the twelve colors available in this collection:

DSCN0847

Thistle Do Nicely (3 Coats/No Top Coat)

Thistle Do Nicely is a peachy/pink neon color. It’s probably my favorite color in the entire collection because it is super bright! Reminds me of China Glaze’s Flip Flop Fantasy.

DSCN0865

At Vase Value (3 Coats/No Top Coat)

At Vase Value is a gorgeous cream mint color. It’s very similar to China Glaze’s Re-Fresh Mint, but Re-Fresh Mint has more of a white undertone.

DSCN0874

Spring In My Step (3 Coats/No Top Coat)

Spring in my Step is the kind of nude I like to wear. It’s actually a little more pink in person and I love it!

DSCN0884

Peonies & Park Ave. (2 Coats/No Top Coat)

Peonies & Park Ave. is a traditional creamy pink. Not as bright as I thought it was going to be based on the swatches I had seen. I def could have left this one in the store…It’s not a bad color at all. I just feel like I have seen this pink many times before.

Overall, I like the colors I chose. One thing that I will tell you is that the formula on all of these polishes is STREAKY!! A lot of the colors required 3 coats for full opacity so keep that in mind when you are deciding whether or not to purchase. Be sure to check and see if Sally’s is still having a sale on this brand. If not, you can always purchase these on Head 2 Toe Beauty

I hope everyone is having a great week! xx

China Glaze: Sunday Funday

I am so in love with blue polishes. I don’t care if they are light, dark, pale or bright. Blue nail polish just does it for me. I recently purchased this one from Sally’s Beauty supply. I couldn’t wait to swatch it for you all. Sunday Funday is a gorgeous, creamy bright blue color from China Glaze’s new Avant Garden Collection for Spring 2013.

The only thing I do not like about this color is how much it stains when you remove it from your nails. Sheesh!!! I looked like a smurf after taking this color off my nails. But that is my only complaint about it. I dare venture to say that the color pay off is worth the staining, but you could probably find another bright creamy blue doesn’t stain. When I find a dupe (i.e. duplicate) I’ll be sure to let you guys know. Lol

Sunday FundayI cannot keep up with all these nail polish collections. Who knew that there were so many and with such a variety of colors and finishes. However, the Avant Garden Collection is a little different from other Spring collections I’ve seen. What I love about it is that is isn’t packed full of pastels, which is traditionally what every nail polish brand  does during the spring seasons. There is a mixture of brights and darks with a number of finishes. Check out the various colors in the collection below:

I hope you all enjoyed this post…Until the next time, be blessed!! xx

Hanging In The Balance+18k Top Coat

After being in a nail polish rut all week, it was nice to pick up a handful of colors from China Glaze’s Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away 3D Collection. I obviously didn’t purchase the entire collection because I don’t have a need for all of them. Amongst the four I picked up (Hanging in the Balance, Escaping Reality, Igniting Love, and Whirled Away) I have to admit that I am totally in love with Hanging in the Balance (HITB). It is a gorgeous blue, and you all know how I love my blues!

HITB is a dark, cream turquoise blue and the brightness of the color changes depending on the lighting. The application was amazing! This formula is opaque in one coat, but in the picture below I used two.  Check out the swatches below:

CG and Zoya 18k4

I am also wearing Zoya’s 18k gold flake topcoat on my ring finger as an accent. Can I say that this topcoat is AMAZEBALLS! The application is super easy and adds a little something special to the manicure. I love that the flakes can easily be spread out on the nail as opposed to depositing a bunch of flakes in one spot, which is a problem I sometimes have with glitter nail polishes. If you are interested in purchasing it, you can order it here. You get more bang for your buck if you order the set, which is $10 more than the topcoat alone, but includes two nail polishes (Raven and Purity) in addition to the topcoat.

Anywho, you can check out the entire Cirque du Soleil collection on head2toebeauty.com or sallybeauty.com. If you are interested in seeing the swatches of the rest of the colors I purchased from the collection, let me know! Talk to you soon! xx

Try This Trend: Half Moon Manicure

I have been wanting to try this trend for quite some time now. I’m sure you’ve seen it a million times, but I had to do my own version of the half moon mani. It was pretty easy, but it definitely takes a considerable about of time, as you have to wait for your base color to dry before you apply the reinforcements to the nail. And yes, I used hole reinforcement stickers (normally used for the purpose of reinforcing rips in holed notebook paper) to get the half moon look at the bottom of my nail.

Check out the swatches below:

For my base color I used Revlon’s Gold Coin, and China Glaze’s Liquid Leather as the main color. I put two coats of Out the Door fast drying Top Coat on my nails as well to add some shine and to smooth the line between the black and the gold.

My right hand didn’t turn out as well as my left hand showed here, but not bad at all for my first time. I think I will be revisiting this mani again and again especially for occasions when I am going out! I am going to try some various color combinations as well…I’ll keep you all posted on my progress!

Have you tried the half moon mani yet? If so, how did you like it? Did you do it yourself?

I’m on serious crunch time right now with my thesis, which I am trying to finish by Monday.  I hope everyone has a blessed weekend and I will talk to you sometime next week! xx

NOTD: Across the Universe

I recently picked up Deborah Lippmann’s Across the Universe (ATU) nail polish and I am loving it! I imagine that it would look gorgeous layered over a number of colors, but in this post I paired it with China Glaze’s Frostbite, which (as you all know) is my favorite nail color of all time.

Normally, I would be on to a totally different nail polish by now, but Frostbite is such a gorgeous color I can’t take it off just yet. I have been wearing it since Sunday and I added Across the Universe to my index and ring fingers just to add a little pizazz.

You could totally wear ATU on every nail, but I am just being lazy because I dont want to deal with scrubbing all that glitter off my nails when it’s time to redo my mani. Lol…Speaking of the glitter, ATU has both blue and green hexagonal glitter and tiny blue specks of glitter in it as well as a dark but sheer background color (perhaps a sheer dark blue). It could be worn alone or over any blue or black nail polish. In the pictures below, I put one coat of Frostbite on my ring finger and two coats of ATU on top of it. The rest of my nails have just two coats of Frostbite on them. Gorge!

20120613-071908.jpg

20120613-071954.jpg

20120613-072030.jpg

Now I can’t end this post without saying that I have seen a similar glitter to ATU. Milani’s FX nail polish in Teal looks pretty similar to this one. However, Milani’s Teal includes silver hexagonal glitter in addition to the blue and green ones. Also, it doesn’t have the dark background color either. Surprisingly, these differences actually could make the Milani nail polish stand out a little bit more depending on what nail color its paired with. Further, you could easily add a dark nail polish underneath Teal and get a look that is practically identical to ATU. $5 versus $18…And yet, I like the Deborah Lippmann one better…mainly because it is a little more muted and subtle as opposed to the Milani one. The dark background color tones the glitter down a bit. But that’s just my opinion!

Have you tried any of the polishes from Milani’s FX Glitter line? Or any of Deborah Lippmann’s collection? What are your favorites?

Hope you enjoyed this post! XX
