The Blues: Frostbite and Xanadu

This winter has been so hard on my nails. They are constantly breaking and feel so incredibly brittle even though I am taking vitamins daily. With that being said, because my nails are so short right now I’ve fallen back in love with China Glaze’s Frostbite. I love it because no matter how short your nails are this color will always look good. Although it is my favorite, I wanted to add a little something to it. I picked up this Deborah Lippmann polish in Xanadu a few months ago but I hadn’t used it yet. It’s a lot of glitter so I decided to use it just for an accent nail. Check out the swatches below:

Xanadu reminds me of Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream but it doesn’t have quite as much texture. I love it nonetheless, but I don’t know if I want to use it for my entire manicure. What do you guys think? What nail polishes have you all been wearing this winter? I’ve seen some pretty awesome Spring collections from China Glaze, Color Club, and Zoya so I am looking forward to wearing bright colors again! Are there any particular collections you guys would like for me to swatch? If so, just let me know!

I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. Talk to you soon! xx

Deborah Lippmann – Blue Orchid

Hey dolls!!! Today, I have some swatches of one of my favorite colors at the moment from Deborah Lippmann’s Spring collection. When Sephora was having their 20% off friends and family promotion a little while ago, I took advantage and bought this beauty. Everyone knows Deborah Lippmann is expensive, but no one can deny the quality of her nail lacquers:

Blue Orchid is a creamy pastel blue with grey undertones, but is probably a tiny bit more blue in person. I love it! You could actually get away with wearing just one coat, but I did two in these photos to make sure the color was even. You guys know I love my blue polishes and this is no exception. There is actually one other color I want from this collection, Flowers in Her Hair, but it seems as if I’m going to have to go on a bit of a search for it.

If you haven’t already seen it, be sure to check out Deborah Lippmann’s Summer collection here.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and I promise I will talk to you soon!! xx

DL’s Boom Boom Pow + Gaia

I was painting my nails last night and I wanted to go for a more neutral look since I have been wearing vibrant blues and pinks for a minute now. I decided to use Zoya’s Gaia for my mani, and I added Deborah Lippmann’s Boom Boom Pow to my accent nail.

What can I say about Gaia? First, I have to admit that the pictures do not do her justice. Gaia is a creamy white color with gorgeous flecks of gold/yellow in it. I purchased this color a few months ago during Zoya’s last buy 3, get 3 promotion and I am not at all disappointed. I bought this particular color because white nail polish can look a bit harsh on dark skin (in my opinion) and I wanted a white (or close to white) color that would look flattering on me. Although its a little streaky at first, by your third coat, you will be so mesmerized by this color, and you will forget all about the little bit of work you had to put into it. Gaia’s golden shimmer is really what makes this color special. You can purchase it on Zoya’s website here for $8.

As for Deborah Lippmann’s Boom Boom Pow, not only does it have 24K gold flakies in it, but it looks absolutely gorgeous on the nail. BBP consists of round gold glitters as well as tiny flecks of gold, which makes your nails feel blinged out without looking too over the top. You can pair is with almost any color and it will look beautiful. DL’s nail polishes usually cost a pretty penny (BBP retails for $20), but anyone who has tried her glitter polishes will admit that it is well worth it. Of all of the DL polishes I own, BBP is definitely one of my favorites. You can purchase it at Nordstrom here.

I hope you enjoyed this post…Talk to you all soon!! XOXO

NOTD: Across the Universe

I recently picked up Deborah Lippmann’s Across the Universe (ATU) nail polish and I am loving it! I imagine that it would look gorgeous layered over a number of colors, but in this post I paired it with China Glaze’s Frostbite, which (as you all know) is my favorite nail color of all time.

Normally, I would be on to a totally different nail polish by now, but Frostbite is such a gorgeous color I can’t take it off just yet. I have been wearing it since Sunday and I added Across the Universe to my index and ring fingers just to add a little pizazz.

You could totally wear ATU on every nail, but I am just being lazy because I dont want to deal with scrubbing all that glitter off my nails when it’s time to redo my mani. Lol…Speaking of the glitter, ATU has both blue and green hexagonal glitter and tiny blue specks of glitter in it as well as a dark but sheer background color (perhaps a sheer dark blue). It could be worn alone or over any blue or black nail polish. In the pictures below, I put one coat of Frostbite on my ring finger and two coats of ATU on top of it. The rest of my nails have just two coats of Frostbite on them. Gorge!

Now I can’t end this post without saying that I have seen a similar glitter to ATU. Milani’s FX nail polish in Teal looks pretty similar to this one. However, Milani’s Teal includes silver hexagonal glitter in addition to the blue and green ones. Also, it doesn’t have the dark background color either. Surprisingly, these differences actually could make the Milani nail polish stand out a little bit more depending on what nail color its paired with. Further, you could easily add a dark nail polish underneath Teal and get a look that is practically identical to ATU. $5 versus $18…And yet, I like the Deborah Lippmann one better…mainly because it is a little more muted and subtle as opposed to the Milani one. The dark background color tones the glitter down a bit. But that’s just my opinion!

Have you tried any of the polishes from Milani’s FX Glitter line? Or any of Deborah Lippmann’s collection? What are your favorites?

Hope you enjoyed this post! XX

Mermaid’s Dream

Deborah Lippmann’s Mermaid’s Dream seems to be sold out everywhere! Luckily I was able to get my hands on this color from her Spring 2012 Resort collection. I had placed an order with Nordstrom several weeks ago, and it was taking forever!! Finally I had received a “delayed” email, which meant that they didn’t have one anywhere! To make a long story short, I cancelled my order with Nordies and ordered it from Zappos. I swear it took only 2 days for me to receive it in the mail, which I thought was impressive. After painting my nails with it, I am glad that I went through the hassle of getting it. The color is a gorgeous sea foam green with blue hexagonal and small gold glitters. Even though I had to use three coats to reach full opacity, you may be able to get away with just two. Check out the pictures below:

My little niece thought it was so pretty so I painted her nails as well. Lol:

Glitter in the Air

I’ve been slowly, but surely collecting some of the accessories off of my lust list that I published a few months ago here. Glitter in the Air by Deborah Lippmann had been sold out for months. When I tried to find it in the fall I was told that it was a Spring nail polish that was sold out and wasn’t going to be restocked. FALSE! I was in Columbia Mall (Maryland), actually trying to get to the Mac counter in Nordstrom, but since it was so crowded I decided to take a look at the polishes while I waited. And there it was!! There were only two left, and I snatched one of those bottles up with the quickness!

While I was excited about finally getting my hands on this polish, I was a little disappointed that it isn’t very opaque. You will have to apply about three to four coats in order to achieve the look you see in the bottle. However, there is a simple solution to that problem…just use this as a top coat and use a similar color for the base.

I absolutely love this color!! It makes me want to eat cupcakes! Here are some swatches:

3 coats of DL Glitter in the Air and no base color

2 coats of Essie's Turquoise & Caicos/ 1 coat of DL Glitter in the Air on top

This nail polish retails for $18 so if you want to save some money, and you have the patience to search for it, there is a dupe! Revlon’s Whimsical looks pretty identical (which you can purchase here) and I would have purchased that one if I had known about it prior to purchasing this one! Either way, I am satisfied…Loves it!!

As always, happy shopping! XOXO
