Handbag Review: Alexander Wang Rocco

I’ve been living with Alexander Wang, the bag that is, for about three months now and I finally feel like I can give an accurate review of this bag. Let me get straight to the point, it is well worth the money…Sometimes I feel like you really have to live with a bag before you can judge whether or not it works for you. A quick glance in a department store doesn’t always suffice so here are my thoughts on the Alexander Wang Rocco handbag:

  • It is simultaneously chic and edgy. The studs on the bottom of the handbag make it edgy and the quality of the leather makes it chic.
  • The bag is huge, therefore, you could carry an iPad, wallet, makeup bag, cell phone and a bunch of other things in this handbag. There are three pockets on the inside: one large one that zips and two smaller open pockets on the opposite side. These side pockets make it easy to locate your keys or cell phone so that those sorts of items don’t get lost inside the bag (hate when that happens). There are also two smaller pockets on the front of the bag (pictured above) that are great for hiding things from yourself.
  • The pebbled leather is to die for…
  • I love the matte black hardware on this handbag because it makes this Wang timeless. I’ve seen other metals on other Rocco bags and I feel like they are very trendy (i.e. the rose gold hardware), which may or may not be a trend that sticks around.
  • The handbag is black (obviously) so it practically goes with everything and can be worn all year around. And because the hardware is all black you don’t have to worry about mixing metals (I used to be very rigid about all the metals on my accessories matching perfectly so I understand if this a concern for someone).
  • You can carry this bag three ways: on your shoulder, across your body or on your forearm. I like to alternate.
  • It’s different. I have only actually seen one other person with this bag. Beats that Louis Vuitton Speedy that I wish would die and never come back (Seriously, I am so tired of seeing chicks with that bag!).

  • Just because you can fit a million and one things in this bag does not mean that you should! The studs on the bag are a little heavy and if you add a lot of things to your handbag you will have difficulty carrying it (especially if you are going some place like the mall or a museum, for instance, where you will be carrying it the entire time you are out).
  • The only other thing that I have noticed, and I don’t know if this is an issue with other Wang metals, is that the black hardware (and I’m referring to the studs on the bottom) can get scratched so be careful where you place your bag. I know that sounds ridiculous, and no one would notice this but you, however, I would feel bad if I didn’t tell you the entire truth.
  • The price tag…Lol…No explanation needed.

Here are some more images of the satchel:

Overall, I think this handbag is well worth the investment. If you are considering buying one I have a handful of suggestions (and these suggestions can apply to any handbag purchase, really):

  1. Go see the handbag in person. Do not blindly buy it online unless you have already investigated it in person on a separate occasion. Considering the price (retails for $875) you need to get a feel for how the bag is going to look and feel when you are carrying it. Keep in mind that some bags look different on display as opposed to real life. The stuffing can really alter the shape of a bag.
  2. Make sure the bag matches your style. I know that sounds crazy but its true. You need to try the bag on, see if it looks like you. Live with the bag for a little bit.
  3. Don’t impusively purchase. Walk away from the bag, and if you find that you can’t stop thinking about it, and it meets all of your standards then buy it. Walking away from the bag initially will allow you some time to think about whether you REALLY want it. This will save you from buyer’s remorse. If you forget about it then its possible that you don’t really want or need it.
  4. Enjoy it! Buying and wearing accessories are meant to be fun! Adding another piece to your wardrobe, especially if it fits your look, should be exciting.

Okay, I know that was a lot but I hope you all got something out of this post. If you want more information on how to choose the right handbag for you, check out my post on that topic here.

xx, Kel

My Fall Handbag: DVF Drew Patchwork Satchel

When looking for a handbag for my birthday recently, I was contemplating whether or not I should splurge on the Alexander Wang Rocco bag. After much consideration I decided not to buy it. One reason why I refrained was because it is bloody expensive (in my Rebecca Bloomwood voice…if you have not read Sophie Kinsella’s Confessions of a Shopaholic get off my blog right now!)! Anywhoo, the handbag retails for $875. With tax that is quite close to $1000…I just couldn’t wrap my head around spending that much money on a handbag right now. But let me be clear, do not be surprised if it eventually makes an appearance here on Clutchez a year or two from now! I’m just saying…

I was also considering several Tory Burch satchels until I saw a complaint on Nordstrom.com about how the piping on the straps was coming aloose. Sheesh! So I kept looking and was considering a Diane Von Furstenburg bag one of my friends purchased recently (hey Tameka!). And when it went on sale on DVF.com I had to get it.

While I love fashion, I really hate to pay full price for anything! I always try to wait for things to go on sale especially if they cost a pretty penny! The DVF Drew Satchel Patchwork retails for $545, but was on sale for 30% off when I purchased it. It’s available here if you are interested in puchasing as well.

Here are 5 reasons why I love this satchel:

  1. It is huge! I can fit my books/journal as well as my ipad in it.
  2. It is effortlessly color blocked already. I love the various patterns and colors on the bag. The blue handles really makes the bag noticeably unique. The various textures and colors make this handbag versatile and it goes with everything!
  3. It is very structured. I love that it maintains its shape when you sit it down on a desk or table.
  4. It can be carried in the nook of my arm or carried as a shoulder bag.
  5. It is a classic handbag that is both trendy and timeless.

I hope you all enjoyed this post! XOXO

Fall Inspiration

Lately, I have been turning to Pinterest for style inspiration. One of my boards, Clothes and Clutchez, consists of hundreds of pictures that serve as my virtual stylist. With all the faux leather pants and structured blazer looks,  I am super excited about gearing up my wardrobe for Fall. While I have subconsciously gravitated towards a lot of black, I know that I will need some pops of color as well. Check out some of the most inspirational looks I’ve found on Pinterest below:

20120909-085111.jpgI plan to rock a very similar look for a date night or girl’s night out with my friends. I like this because it is classic and yet has a bit of edge. Although I doubt that I would ever wear a white handbag or those shoes, the blazer and leather pants would be the perfect look for me.

This vest and handbag really makes this outfit. The ruffled shoulders as well as the orange stripe going down the right of side of the vest is EVERYTHING! And the Celine handbag…quite frankly, is amazing!!!

First, this Philip Lim satchel is to die for (sorry, but you all know I am obsessed with handbags)…I love this look because it is, like the first one, very classy but has some edge to it. The embroidered peplum blouse and yellow jacket  are super girly, which softens the edge of all the black leather.

This motorcycle jacket along with the red clutch is hot. I am not wild about these particular leather pants (I think I would be a bit too hippy for these), but I could def see myself rocking the heck out of the jacket and clutch. And did you notice the nails? Yup…I peeped that. Loves it!

This is a look I could wear any day of the week. It is a super laid back look but could pass for being dressed up if you throw on some high heel boots.

Sidenote: I don’t know what kind of handbag this is in the picture, but I need to find out! Studded embellishments are my new favorite thing on accessories at the moment…I’m just saying…

Do I even need to say why I like this outfit? Nope. I think it speaks for itself.

Last but certainly not least in my book, how cute is this outfit?! That trench! Not sure that I would rock the skirt, but the blouse and trench are right up my alley. And is that another Celine handbag? Sure is! I am also loving the gold accessories and super dark sunnies.

I hope you all like these looks, but if you don’t there are thousands of inspirational images online if you need a little something to help you with your wardrobe. Yesterday, while I was reading the latest issue of Lucky Magazine (October), I stumbled upon an article about finding your personal style.

The first step was gathering pictures of things you love, things that actually inspire you. I encourage you all to do that. And in the process of finding your style, pick up and try on some things that you ordinarily wouldn’t. According to Lucky, “You’ll never know if something suits you unless you put it on.”

Hope you all enjoyed this post…now I have to get back to my thesis! I had said I wasn’t going to post anything until I was finished it, but who am I kidding?! I am addicted to blogging…Lol…Talk to you all soon! XOXO

Nordstrom Anniversary Sale: Mini Preview

I always look forward Nordstrom’s Anniversary sale because it gives me the opportunity to score some great pieces that haven’t yet been released. The pre-Anniversary sale began this past Wednesday and anyone with a Nordstrom card can shop the pre-sale from now until July 19th. From July 20th until August 6th the sale will be open to everyone. After August 6th the prices will increase.

This year is the first time Nordstrom has made the pre-sale available online, which I thought was awesome. However, I spent an entire hour trying to order only one thing from the sale on Wednesday so I am surprisingly tired of online shopping right now! I suppose since tons of cardholders were on the site at the same time, there was an overload, and the site was moving extremely slow and kept timing out every couple of minutes.

Anywhoo, I was able to score the Rebecca Minkoff Studded “Wallet on a Chain,” which was about 33% off of the regular price. I am slowly becoming a fan RM’s cross body bags, BTW. I thought this particular cross body was unique so I figured that I should pounce on it ASAP…I am also eyeing a Bagley Mischka tote bag, which I listed below…Can’t decide if I definitely want it, and if so, in what color. When in doubt, wait to purchase!! Lol…

Here are some accessories that I thought were worth mentioning (click the photos to enlarge them):

Rebecca Minkoff MAC Clutches (Left) and “Wallet on a Chain” Clutches (Right)

Clockwise: Marc Jacobs Rose Gold Timepiece, Steve Madden Leopard Flats, Michael Kors Gold Timepiece, and Steven by Steve Madden Boots.

Clockwise: Bagley Mischka Tote in Sapphire (also available in black and cognac), MICHAEL Michael Kors Shoulder Tote in Nickel (available in black, purple and vanilla), and DKNY Notched Bezel Timepiece in Gunmetal.

I hope you all enjoyed this post…let me know what you think…Smooches! XOXO…

Choosing the Right Handbag (Part Two)

As readers of my blog you should already know that I would recommend that you buy your handbags at Nordstrom. Their customer service is phenomenal and their return policy is amazing. However, I am not crazy enough to think that other department stores don’t have similar return policies. Just be sure to find out what the return policy is before purchasing because if you are going to spend a lot of money on your handbag, you will want to be able to bring it back if something goes wrong. Other department stores where you can find nice handbags are Neiman Marcus, Saks, Bloomingdale’s, Macy’s and Lord and Taylor.

You should also check out stores like Off Saks 5th Ave., Filene’s Basement, Loehmann’s, Neiman Marcus Last Call, and Nordstrom Rack. You can find a lot of discounted handbags from previous seasons there. Outlets are also a great way to save money on name brand items so be sure to check them out as well.

Last but not least, if you live near any boutiques or thrift shops don’t sleep on them. They just might have exactly what you are looking for. Thrift shops are hit or miss, but most of the time boutiques will have very unique, one of a kind, handmade bags that aren’t heavily manufactured so you won’t have to worry about seeing another woman carrying your bag.

Sidenote: If you choose to purchase handbags through websites like Ebay, be very careful because not everyone is honest and it is easy to be deceived online. Check the sellers return policy as well as their ratings before bidding.

I am a huge fan of coach (especially the Madison satchels, which is why I own three of them)!! Other brands I love are Guess Marciano, Marc Jacobs, Betsey Johnson, Steven by Steve Madden, L.A.M.B., and Juicy Couture. These are mainly the brands that I actually own, but there are many others that I like…however, I won’t bore you with all the extra commentary.

Final Tips:

My sister always makes the joke that all my handbags have bags (i.e. dust bags), which I think is hilarious, but totally necessary!! You don’t want your bags to get dusty when you are not wearing them so you should definitely make sure that you place them in a dust bag when storing them in your closet.

Now for the fun stuff…Here are a few bags that are on my wish list…for whatever reason I am obsessed with Marc Jacobs at the moment! This first one I am definitely going to purchase!
