Try This Trend: Black+White+a Pop of Color

Normally, I’ve seen women rock black and white with red shoes, but lately I’ve noticed that celebs are stepping outside of the box. Nowadays, ladies are rocking their black and white with lime greens, blues, nudes and many other colors. Check it out below:

Kim K. rocks lime green pumps with her striped blouse and black pencil skirt

June A. sports a white blazer and black pants with electric blue pumps

Rihanna goes with a trendy nude boot with her black and white striped shirt

This trend is an easy way to switch things up so try it out! Smooches!XOXO

UD 15-Year Anniversary Palette

Many bloggers and Youtubers have been raving about Urban Decay’s Naked Palette. However, UD recently released their fall collection, which includes the 15 Year Anniversary Eyeshadow Palette that just might trump the Naked Palette everyone has been so obsessed with. This palette includes a range of shadows from bright, deep, pigmented colors to neutral, bronze tones…Perfect for those of you who are a bit more bold and daring when it comes to eye makeup. It is more veratile than the Naked Palette, which was meant for a more natural look, and it’s going for about $55. Check it out below:

You can pick this up on UD’s website: http://www.urbandecay.com/15-year-anniversary-eyeshadow-collection/308,default,pd.html

Massive Nail Polish Haul

Okay, I know, I know, this is a lot of nail polish to collect in a month and a half, but I couldn’t resist!! Between Ulta, http://www.head2toebeauty.com, Target, Walmart and Sally’s Beauty Supply I have collected WAY TOO MUCH POLISH, but I am loving and wearing them all!!

I have some swatches below that I know a lot of you guys (gals!) would be interested in so let’s get right into it. Click on the pictures to enlarge them so that you can see the colors up close:

Natural Light

I’ve taken pictures of these swatches in various lighting because, believe it or not, your polish looks different depending on the lighting. Here are the names and brands of each from left to right:

  1. Milani: Totally 80’s (Target)
  2. Wet’N’Wild: The Wonder Yellows (Walmart)
  3. Revlon: Minted (Target)
  4. Essie: Turquoise and Caicos (Ulta)
  5. Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear: The Real Teal (Ulta)
  6. Sally Hansen HD: Blu (Target)
  7. Sinful Colors: Let’s Talk (Target)
  8. Color Club: Pure Energy (Head2toe)
  9. Color Club: Poptastic (Head2toe)
  10. Color Club: Revvvolution (holographic) (Head2toe)
  11. China Glaze Crackle Metal: Oxidized Aqua (The polish underneath is Frostbite by China Glaze) (Sally’s Beauty Supply)
  12. China Glaze Crackle Metal: Platinum Pieces (The polish underneath is Frostbite by China Glaze) (Sally’s Beauty Supply)

There are a few other China Glaze Crackle Metals that I want but Sally’s only had the two I mentioned above and Broken Medallion (which I didn’t want). I need Tarnished Gold, and Haute Metal (and maybe Latticed Lilac)…We shall see if I can get my hands on them! Here’s a link to the video demonstration: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=diYAChyhqBg&feature=player_embedded

BONUS: Sally Hansen Salon Effects

I’ve seen advertisements for these in several magazines and I’ve been wanting to try them for a long time. I was debating because $8-$9 is a lot to spend on nail strips for one-time only use. I am excited to report that I am very pleased with them. Kitty, Kitty is definitely my favorite out of all of the designs. I tried Frock Star, but I couldn’t get with all that glitter! Here is the swatch for Kitty, Kitty:

Nails for the Day: Totally 80’s by Milani

I am absolutely loving neon nails! Normally, I go for bright pinks and blues (as I’ve stated a million times), but I had to try this color, which is a cross between a lime green and a neon yellow. It’s actually more subtle than you might think in normal lighting…the pictures actually don’t do this color the justice it deserves but you get the idea…Check it out below:

I put on two coats here, and used a Seche Vite top coat to make it shine…but the color reflected really depends on the lighting. Here’s another one:

There are some comparable colors to this one so if you’re interested you can try these:

  • Essie’s Funky Lime Light
  • Color Club’s Get Your Lem-On
  • China Glaze’s Celtic Sun

Happy nail painting!!

Fight the Frizz!

I don’t know about you ladies, but every single summer I have an issue with my hair! I do not have a perm and my hair is naturally curly, so I can only keep my hair straight IF there is little heat and/or no humidity involved (i.e. Winter and Fall). HOWEVER, I recently went to Myrtle Beach and with all that wind blowing my hair every which way, my roots took on a mind of their own and curled up! I don’t know what it is about Southern heat that makes a black woman’s hair go POOF?! I would have taken a picture for you guys to see what that wind did to my tresses, but I would never post anything on here of me looking a hot burning mess!! NOPE! I digress. Anyway, I just want to know what do most women do with their hair in the summer?!

Now, when I am at home in the summer I can make my hair act right sometimes. What I have to do is wash it, blow dry it straight (using little or no oil/hair spray at all) and flat iron it in very small sections. My hair is a total production! I have to wash it often to avoid build-up that may weigh my hair down making it even more susceptible to frizz. I’ve been using the L’oreal Paris EverStrong Sulfate Free Hydrate Shampoo/Conditioner, which works great on my hair. This shampoo/conditioner combo helps to keep your hair moisturized and I definitely recommend it. I’ve also been using Tresemme’s Heat Tamer consistently to avoid heat damage since I have to put heat in my hair more often in the summer time. Other products that I would recommend are Just For Me ( and yes I use products designed for kiddies with perms) and Garnier Fruitis’ Leave-In Conditioners because they are great for detangling.

I’m sure whatever you all choose to do with your tresses will look fab! Stay cool and don’t let the humidity get you down!! Smooches!! XOXO

Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale Haul!

Every May and November Nordstrom has a Half Yearly Sale where they mark down certain items for women and children. I always look forward to Nordstrom’s sales because I can usually purchase things that I’ve been watching for a discounted price (usually 33-40% off ). I didn’t go too crazy this year because I knew that their Anniversary Sale was going to be right around the corner (July 15th-19th, but I’ll get into that later on in the post). I did cop a handful of items because, as you know, I love Nordies, and how could I pass on such great deals on designer accessories?! Anywhoo…Here’s what I picked up:

Michael Kors Resin Chronograph Watch, $134.90

Coach Sandal, $57.90

Carrera Eyewear "NASKA" Sunglasses, $59.90

Coach Sandal, $57.90

I’d been watching the Michael Kors timepiece for quite some time and I was so excited once I saw that is was marked down from $225 (40% off). I’ve also been eyeballing Carrera sunglasses for over a year now and I decided to purchase these in particular because they are quite cute and retro, and they were marked down from $120. As for the Coach sandals, those were just a spare of the moment splurge! I needed some flat sandals that I could dress up or down so I copped these.

Every July Nordstrom also has an Anniversary Sale where cardholders can get first dibs on designer merchandise that hasn’t (technically) been released yet. A Nordstrom associate usually calls me to see if I’d like to pre-order anything for that particular sale. However, anyone can take advantage of the sale from July 15th to July 19th.

The exclusivity and customer service at Nordstrom is amazing! If you aren’t a frequent flyer at Nordies then you are not in the know!! Happy Shopping! XOXO
